@plotchickens It's not Uhura's fault that they cast a Korean for Sulu. Besides, the original actor for Sulu gave John Cho his approval, saying that Sulu was to represent all Asians. And last time I checked, the terms "Korean" and "Japanese" represent nationalities, not races. I don't see you getting upset that Zoe's a Latina, when she's representing Africa. Not even Nichelle Nichols was from Africa. They're called actors for a reason. Get your facts straight.

if you can change one race, why not change another? there's no reason Uhura can't be white.

@plotchickens They didn't mention that he was korean in the plot. His character is still Japanese. I'm from Dublin... that's just like me playing someone from continental Europe or the UK - not much of a difference in terms of facial features.

You know Nimoy's book "I Am Spock"? Well in Heroes, Quinto (new Spock) played Sylar, and Heroes had an episode called "I Am Sylar".
The actors don't choose Star Trek, Star Trek chooses it's actors.

Well said! I like Star Trek, but I wouldn't say I'm a Trekkie. However my cousin is a Trekkie and she's completely normal.
Can we try not to stereotype? That would be awesome.
