Woah, man. That was rude. Some people are really ridiculous about Kurt and take it too far in the way they idolize him, yeah. I mean, I love Kurt, but I'll be the first to admit that he was an ass hole. Also, a lot of Cobain fans came to listen to this version because they heard that Leadbelly was Kurt's favorite artist, so before you go and call a whole group of people "AIDS" for liking a musician who covered a song's version better, just stop and think about what you're saying.

"best" is relative, arguing subjectivity is pointless. Without Lead Belly there would have been no Nirvana cover and without Nirvana there also would have been no Nirvana cover...so...what's the argument?

The original is the best, I am afraid.

Original: Leadbelly. He recorded it before Kurt was even conceived.
Emotion: I'll give it to Kurt. Dat scream...
Quality: N/A
Technique: Leadbelly. One guitar, one voice. Sounds more honest.
Style: Leadbelly. It sounds like a train chugging. For some reason, it's much more eerie.
Not to disrespect Kurt, but this version is better.

Objectively it is:
Leadbelly's is not an original, so you can't give it credit for creation. In terms of technicality Nirvana's arrangement is better. In terms of emotion, you can clearly see that Kurt put more into that performance than Leadbelly has. In terms of recording quality, Nirvana's is better (though obviously this is an unfair judgement).
The only things this version has up on Nirvana are being first and the style.
