Jill Sobule shows Wayne Kramer (and you) how to play the song "Where is Bobbie Gentry?" The song will appear as a track on Jill's album "California Years," to be released April 14, 2009.
Boy, did Jim Stafford screw things up! He's got to be still kicking himself for ruining that marriage.(yeah, I know, I might be slandering Stafford, not knowing the two of them, but we've got to side with Bobbie, don't we?)
Hang on! Someone threw a baby off the Tallahatchie bridge? Do the police know about this? I always thought that Billy Joe jumped off the bridge. Did he have a baby with him?
I`m confused!
Which, for me, is not unusual! : )
Oh Yeah. Jill Sobule rocks and Wayne Kramer is Wayne Kramer!
I love the raw vitality of 'California Years'. My fave tracks are ' Where is Bobbie Gentry?' and ' San Francisco'. If you love Lucinda Willams( like I do).. you will love Jill Sobule's unique talent too. Went to Barnes & Noble and bought their last two copies for friends today. This record deserves to be heard. Jill has " Nothing to Prove!" Jill's fans need to go to David Lettermans " World Wide Pants Production Company' and ask that they book this talented lady on their show...
Hey Jill, I was able to get our local country radio station to play ' where is Bobbie Gentry?! When i called back to thank them, they said they had several calls asking about the song and the artist. This could be a country hit! You can bet Bobbie Gentry's core group of fans are behind you and your great album ' California Years'..
I love this song but whats funny is Bobbie Gentry is currently living in a mult million dollar home in California mulling film offers for her other big hit ' Fancy' Her last television performance was on an nbc mothers day special in May of 1980. She performed the broadway song ' Mama A Rainbow'. She also presented at the 1980 ACM award show. She retired on her own terms to raise her son Tyler from a brief marriage to singer Jim Stafford. Yes, she's still beautiful and wealthy in her 60's.
