@sangfroidjen Could not agree more with what you said. Sylvie Guillem is without doubt a most complete artist and she has set a standard for new generations of dancers with her performances, image, intelligence, diversity in her repertoire and artistic integrity. You are right about Vishneva who admires Guillem immensely by the way and who has constructed her career on her example without imitating her, intellignetly combining classical and modern dancing and expanding new artistic horizons.

@nakis74 Very well said. Sylvie is gifted in body, command of technique, charisma, and intellect that comes across onstage in a big way. Like her or not, her persona is powerful yet unforced, unlike certain stars who are all flash and of little substance. Osipova has good and bad points, but now it seems like she's mainly relying on audience-pleasing tricks, thereby lowering audiences' ballet IQ even more. Diana Vishneva comes close to Sylvie as far as today's dancers go.

no Navy Seal could keep up with her ...lol

She is... beautiful, how lucky to be born with the perfect body and unbelievably talented as well. One in a million!

No one can do Don Quichotet like Sylvie because she is a true artist. Osipova is very talented and gifted abut nowhere on the same level as Sylvie, in dancing talent is not enought you also have to use braisn and soul plus the charisma. Osipova has left the Bolchoi for the Michailovsky and one can see that in the latest Gala we have seen in the Michailovsky that she is full of mannerisms and ticks, no artistry, Sylvie is a true artist. Can anyone name anaother dancer as versatiel as Sylvie?

Wow... this video still gives me happy chills.. She's awesome.

@mrparts because they become less and less charming and graceful each and every year...

@proudtobeadancer : Actually, she's not even correcting Sylvie. She's telling her the good things she's doing. :p See,it IS impossible to correct her.

@prossimamente- That was the poster's point. Some people say that dancers of today aren't as good as dancers of years ago; that they now lack a certain charm, grace, blah blah etc. etc. But 20-30 years from now, people will be just as praising of these dancers (Sylvie, Svetlana, Natalia, etc.) as much as they praise Fonteyn or Pavlova. People have an obsession with the past.
it's all a matter of perspective.
in 30-40 years, people will be talking about todays dancers in the same glorified rosy way.. people tend to think that all things were better in the past.
