I chuckle imagining Jesus sitting next to the guy going "be quiet you big baby, this is the airplane equivalent of a fender bender".

Funny, that guy was probably saying the first real prayer of his life.. Not a one of you, yes even you died in the wool atheists, or agnostics such as myself can keep that from happening when you really think it might be that moment.. Any one of you who ridicule him only show your lack of experience.

@jss747 Maybe, but if the pilots were to experience some anomaly, they could simply turn off their electronic devices and immediately note if it had some effect. Regardless, just because you don't like rules or don't think they make sense, doesn't mean you can arbitrarily ignore them. You agree to the airlines' rules when you buy a ticket from them, and according to FARs they're the ones who determine when and if you can use electronic devices.

@theruralgeek1 The whole electronic device restrictions is a joke as pilots from most airlines are using iPads in the cockpit on their laps during all phases of flight replacing paper charts.

boomer757 you didnt overrun because atlanta hartford intl airports runway is twice as long as jackson holes. i have had flap problems after takeoff from jackson hole stuck in the down position. jackson holes runway is tiny. that is why sometimes the pilot applies brakes and full thrust. i have many stories of jackson hole because i have been there 10 to 11 times.

@IRAMightyPirate Id probebly prey like crazy to if i was in this situation. That would of scared the shit out of me.

For all those who believe that it was OK to have recorded this video on his cell phone, it is in fact a violation of FARs and airline policies to use electronic devices during critical phases of flight (including landing). Additionally if you read the NTSB transcript, on the PA announcement prior to landing the pilot tells the passengers to turn off ALL electronic devices (which should have included this guy's cell phone).

@Gharalam What if I use the ultra powered ACME 2012 apocalypse electromagnetic field emitter? Will that interfere with the plane's electronic equipment?
-
@GMSNMS Once again where is your "data" to back up your claim? Captain Sullenberger was a retired Air Force pilot, the crew of United 232 had military backgrounds too. Military pilots aren't better or worse- but you clearly suggest they have issues in transitioning. Being a military pilot i'm just curious as to where you got your data... it's all good. My military- airline collegues will get a good laugh out of your comment.

@comicpilot YOU'RE THE DAMN IDIOT HERE. DID I SAY MILITARY PILOTS ARE WORSE PILOTS??? NO, I SAID A GOOD PERCENTAGE THAT TRANSITION TO THE CIVILIAN SIDE SUCK. THERE ARE GOOD AND BAD PILOTS. CHARLIECHOVICTOR SAID " THE PILOT MAY HAVE EVEN HAD MILITARY BACKGROUNG EXPERIENCE," SUGGESTING HE WAS BETTER THAN A NON MILITARY PILOT. THAT IS WHAT I DISAGREED WITH, SO MORON, THINK AND READ BEFORE YOU CALL SOMEONE AN IDIOT, BECAUSE YOU CLEARLY ARE ONE!
To address some of your comments: There is no way to absolve either the pilots or the aircraft systems from the evidence, here. Both are "in question" until evidence rules them out. Braking coefficients were reportedly good on the runway. The aircraft landed with ample runway remaining, the reversers did not behave normally, the spoilers may not have deployed. From the video, there is no way to judge the effectiveness or application of braking -- the single most important factor.
