Last June 5, 2009, Wilson Ka Wilson Baldonaza had a serious stroke, after previously suffering from mild strokes. He had suffered numerous seizures after his confinement, and has a huge blood clot in his head. He is now currently unconscious and is fully dependent on a respirator to sustain his life. His physicians have informed the family that the chances of his recovery would be very slim at this point.
Ka Wilson served most of his productive years as a labor leader. Employed as a foreman in Mabuhay Textile Mills, Corp. starting 1977, he became the Vice-President of their union, Mabuhay Textile (MATEX) Workers Union in 1983. His leadership covered other sectors as he assumed the General Secretary position of the Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (BAYAN)-CaMaNaVa cities on 1985-1987. He then became part of Ecumenical Institute for Labor and Education Research (EILER) as an instructor for the institutions workers education program in 1987, and as one of the Project Evaluators for the Daop-Palad Program of EILER until 1997. He left EILER to assume part of the national leadership of the Association of Nationalist and Genuine Labor Organizations, a federation of the KMU (ANGLO-KMU). In 2005, he started his role as the Secretary General of KMU when he was elected in its 9th Congress. Ka Wilson exemplifies the image of a labor leader who have dedicated his whole life to the advancement of workers rights and advocacy.
