CAN THE PLASTIC ONES RUN ON IT TOO?
-
@kakureru That would be true, if this were a video of a modern vinyl record being played. But it isn't.
-
im surprised how many people don't understand how extremely hard those old needles are on modern vinyl
-
this is awesome! I'm in love :)

What's interesting though is that was an older method of getting the "saloon sound". Mandolin rails had been installed in Nickelodeons and Orchestrions decades prior to get that "rinky-tink" sound.

These old machines are indeed fascinating! No wonder I spent over 20000 bucks on my collection, and planning to spend a lot more....

I have one of these....what's it worth? Any idea where I can get a needle for it?

Hi, No it will only play shellac records, the sound reproducer is too heavy for vinyl. Regards Marcel

A steel needle is not to be used on vinyl, but of course you know that this record is made of shellac, they are a lot harder and will wear a lot less when using steel. Regards Marcel

"Glad Rag Doll" was released on Decca [U.S.] in 1955 under the name "Happy Otto" (apparently, someone at the label wasn't quite sure they wanted someone credited as being "Crazy"). "Otto's" real name was Fritz Schulz-Reichel (1912-1990), and he created the "Tipsy Wire Box", which made any piano sound like an old-time "saloon model"...
