They arn't. They're Go Saotome, who's a weird clone-thing (don't ask, it's ridiculusly complicated), Genki Saotome (who is the perky little kid from the show, only "he" turns out to be a tomboyish girl in Armageddon and grows up), and Gai, sme big dude because they needed a big dude. Ryoma and the others return though, and Ryoma is so hardcore it's insane. He's piloting Black Getter there.

@TheBType It's because Getters are powered by Getter Rays, which are deadly to Invaders in large doses. So stuff like Getter Beam can kill them by causing their molecular structure to overload and become unstable, causing them to explode.

The Invaders are EXTREMELY Lovecraft inspired...which brings about the whole cosmic horror aspect. But the one thing that Lovecraft never knew about was Getter, which, if known, would have turned cosmic horror into cosmic epic awesomeness, which is exactly what Getter Robo is.

I like how in this series when everyone else tries blowing up, slashing, or exploding the Invaders, the Invaders just regrow or assimilate their shit, but Getters do the exact same thing, and then the Invaders die.

Invaders must be weak against AWESOME.

Ever since Getter Robo Go (manga version) Ken Ishikawa's monsterous enemies have always been hideous freaks.

Even though the first bad guys to be drawn in this way were just cyborgs and androids, they were STILL creepy as hell.

It's worth noting that the Getter portion of Z2's plot is the plot of the radio drama that Armageddon is a sequel to, and the first four episodes of Armageddon; there's another 20-odd missions after you take out Shin Dragon (yes, YOU take out Shin Dragon - though I can't read Japanese, so I can't say what happens).

interesting, but I think today's anime is a bit gore heavy, and that in itself is interesting considering that Japanese society is relatively crime and violence free compared to western societies, so maybe this is their way of releasing the violence in a safe way, just a thought.
