    Nice try yourself, but actually there are many close similarities between various tribal forms of music--in the tonality of the scales and modes, the nature of the instruments, and other such elements. In addition, there certainly were some parallels between the various economically disadvantaged immigrant populations and black Americans. If you haven't already read Steinberg on the Ethnic Myth or Ignatiev on How the Irish Became White, you might start there.
