As I was turning the goblet, the thickness of the wall was very thin---I'd say about 1/32 of an inch---and upon contact with the skew chisel, the piece flew off.

Thankfully, I was wearing a face shield. Face shield is a must have for woodturners.

  • @baconsoda Lol :)) good humor Brendan. Yeah, this happens all the time. I think I need to make a video of all my wood turning failures. Looks much fun than the rest of the videos lol. Cheers, jake :)

  • Wish I had a dollar for every time that happened to me. Usually it's immediately after I apply the final finish.

  • @21mph12 the hardest feeling ever... but, well, keep going!

  • I have a few shelves of broken work, as you say just one more little shaveing....and bang, of she flies. Great when you do finish one tho....lol.

  • @TheCymruBoy lol, my shelf for that is called "nearly firewood" :))

  • more fun when an 8 inch piece of engineered lumber used as a bowl blank flies past your head

  • @psychomikeo500 ouch, now be careful with that! that's a killer beast. i think the worst accident i've had so far is when the chuck grubbed my loose t-shirt. that sucker hurt me too badly on my chest. ( the t-shirt is a history now )

  • How did I miss this chance to laugh at you? That's never happened to me...as far as I can remember. Why an I thinking of the 'selective memory' accusation my wife regularly fires at me?

    Best Wishes, Brendan.

  • @Aharndts yep! It's that one more final cut that screws up everything :)

  • OUCH...... I hate when that happens, the curse of the "one more finial cut"...
