This weekend, twelve thousand students converged on Washington demanding the U.S. lead the world with a cleaner, greener, and more innovative energy policy. Powershift 09 attracted double the numbers of its 07 convention. All day long, students filled the halls of Congress lobbying their elected officials to fight global warming. Meanwhile, a parallel protest called the Capitol Climate Action was taking place out in the streets. Thousands marched to the Capitol Power Plant (owned by Congress) demanding that it convert from coal to natural gas. Activists like writer Bill McKibben, poet Wendell Berry, and NASA scientist James Hansen—who all risked arrest to make their point—hailed the days activities as the kickoff for a year of worldwide mobilizations leading to the Copenhagen Climate Conference in December.

  • haha protestors are so FOS... Coal gives people jobs here in the US, and powers the US... what are your alternatives and don't say wind, cause no one wants one of those big ass white things in their back yard, ask North Dakota, everyone supports wind until they want to put one in their back yard.

  • So much for climate change. Look at all that snow on the ground! Florida has recently had the coldest weather it has ever had in 20 years. Coal will still be burned in America and around the world for hundreds of years until it all runs out.

  • If you find a Navy guy (SUB only) ask him how high C02 got to be on that SUB at times. Way higher then the 385 ppm of today.

  • Im warm my power plant buns coal :)

  • Im cold, my windmill stopped working.

  • I can't wait until their very own communist overlords ship them off to the gulags for some minor thought crime. If they actually taught children things like history and science nowadays instead of a curriculum of indoctrination, they would realize what a terrible mistake they are in the process of making; it's already happened before several times, with horrifying results.
