Translation courtesy of Supertitlist Tom Getty:
My sister and I come from Louisiana,
Where the Mississippi flows beneath the moon, As in the old songs.
We want to go back there, the sooner the better.
(The sooner the better!)
We left four weeks ago for the big cities, To seek our fortune.
In seven years we'll have done it,
Then we'll come home.
(But better still in six!)

Our parents and two brothers
Are waiting for us in Louisiana.
We'll send them the money that we earn.
From that money, we'll build a little house On the Mississippi river in Louisiana.

- Right, Anna? - Yes, Anna.

My sister is pretty, I am practical.
She's a little crazy, but I am sensible.
We are not really two people,
But only one.
We are both called Anna.
We have one past, one future,
One heart and one savings account.
Each does only what is good for the other.

- Right, Anna? - Yes, Anna.
