I have quite a few Alasdair Fraser CDs (unfortunately not the new one yet) and I have learned a lot of his songs by ear, along with my friend who plays the cello. This is the most difficult set I have ever heard him play, and he does it with such skill.
abolutely brilliant. I was in a class that he tried to teach 2 bars of one of those tunes to (the one that starts after 3:00). We all failed miserably. So, so, so sorry Alasdair!
It takes some work, but just concentrate on moving your bow up and down instead of back and forth, and it's not too difficult. Now to be as good at it as he is...that's darn hard. :)
I've got the cello groove figured out just fine, but if she figures out all of Natalie's crazy chord-ness, please let me know... it's overwhelming to know where to start, with all the crazy twists and variations she throws in. We could trade groove for slowed-down chord audio clips.
When were these filmed?? Alasdair still had hair then!!!! It's thinned quite a bit now. lol

To get a start erase thirds from your mind. In hexatonic modal tunes they are inappropriate and in diatonic tunes let the fiddle supply them.
