So you want the big news with the 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX? It makes the same power but is lighter, roomier and still rips to 60 mph in just 5.9 seconds.

This is a rare combination. These days, every new model weighs more than the one before, and manufacturers keep adding power to compensate. Subaru has done exactly the opposite. Through the same clever engineering that brought the WRX to the U.S. in the first place, the Japanese carmaker has minimized the weight of this more spacious, all-wheel-drive WRX to retain its head-snapping acceleration.

  • You can flat it out at 14 seconds, you need to launch it right and shift at the right RPM @ 6200 should do the trick

  • I don't know, the new models have grown on me quite a bit. I actually prefer this new style in "sedan" form more than any of the previous cars. I think it's just a bit more grown up.

  • not a drivers car.. lmao.. I have an 08 Sedan.. and yes it does not pull hard up top the power band.. but torque in the mid range is fucken awesome. Mine has Perrin Performance Stage 1, magnaflow catback, and a Perrin Performance Intake system.. I must say.. I can still kill mustang gt's with it even at the higher freeway speeds of 120mph!! thats awesome. I love this car. Best thing I ever purchased... Next to my bike :)

  • @Wizardsquadron A WRX and the normal are COMPLETELY different. The WRX is soo much better.

  • Why does he say the previous year and the 2008 have the same power this one has 224 hp that is like 20hp less than the 2007

  • this guy basically says this new wrx has gone soft and then right after that he says it beats all the old one's numbers...what the hell

  • Also, for 170hp, it feels pretty weighted down. Unfortunately, it's an automatic and it is only four speeds that shifts a little roughly. Four speeds?? What is this, like 1977? 5-speed and even 6-speed automatics are found everywhere now.

  • We just acquired a 2008 4-door 2.5i Premium. It's nice, I like the front of the car, but the rear is lacking attitude. Dual exhaust with no mean looking tips like the legacy? C'mon...that's kinda lame.

The AWD is really nice and inspires confidence. It's pretty quiet on the inside and the nav is a little hard to get used to. Handling is good, the leather steering wheel feels great, but the overall interior is made of cheap, hard plastic. The entire dash is that way. It's really a fam car

  • I never thought about this but, maybe it was softened for wannabe-rally driving in slick conditions?

Other than that, the 2008 WRX will always be known as the worst WRX.

The 2009 WRX, however, is "a whole new animal" as quoted by Subaru, since the 2009 has a 265HP engine, available only with a 5-speed manual transmission, and stiffer suspension than the 2008 WRX. Subaru took the advice of both the press and the car enthusiasts for the 2009 WRX.

  • 230hp.
