UW-Madison implemented differential tuition for engineering students in 2008, and engineering students have played a major role in directing how differential tuition is used in the UW-Madison College of Engineering. Revenue from differential tuition has enabled the college to open many additional sections in high-demand courses, upgrade its student shops, fund a valuable tutoring program, offer high-quality design experiences, and implement educational and technological innovations, among other changes.
Where is the money going? How did it get to the point that students had to pay to get what they needed that what original tuition should have paid for? Is the money being sucked into a black-hole somewhere?
