Dennis Brutus, a former political prisoner from South Africa who did time with Nelson Mandela on Robben Island, speaks about sweatshops at a workers rights board hearing in Philadelphia on July 12, 2008. His testimony was part of this year's annual Sweatfree Communities conference.

  • @criceto An oversight of mine. Mr. Brutus was indeed considered black. From his obituary in the New York Times: "...Of African, French and Italian ancestry, Mr. Brutus was classified under South Africa’s racial code as “colored.” "

  • @lrdshrddr I play some poems of Brutus. Because he was a political prisoner ( and have a roman name) I was sure that he was black like Mandela.
