@musoph21 & dermotafan, I well understand anyone who admires Caballe's or Scotto's or Cotrubas's "D'onde lieta usci". Each one has certain amazing qualities special to them. Once one is talking about "best", though, that changes things. One is then talking about something half objective and half subjective. I'm hardly immune myself. After all, there's one particular reading of this aria that I personally find more captivating than any other: /watch?v=7sZol_QVD38

Caballé la grande classe contre un Carreras ridicule

@MmeFigaro I think in this aria alone it gives a sort of backward, lingering, nostalgic feeling, like mimi wants to prolong the aria for as long as possible (because at the end she has to part), but fate doesn't allow it. And she's not 'always' behind!
-
yes, she is great artist but why she is always behind the orchestra? she doesnt follow the director!

Montsi why do u have to make me cry. Such dramatic and emotional singing. She and scotto are the best mimis/

Netrebko hasn't heard of Caballe definitely.

JESUS! i dont know what it is but there is something about the note after the Bflat. It just strikes a chord in me and sends shivers down my spine. It just sounds so gut wrenching and soulful. Her vibrato is so even. This lady is perfect!
