Fuzzy Breaks have become the party institution in the Sydney dance scene over recent years. The original promoters of Sublime at Pitt Street, Fuzzy are responsible for a large majority of major calendar events in a partygoers calendar including Parklife, and Australias biggest party Field Day.

Fuzzy are also responsible for numerous one off events of which their successful History of Breaks series is one. As the name suggests these parties pull together major moments in breaks music for huge shakedowns. It is through parties such as these put on by Fuzzy that have stirred up the profile of breaks music in the Sydney scene into mass audience stage shows.

The History of Breaks Volume One is put together by Fuzzy co-founder Jonathan Wall. It is what you would expect (i.e. one big breaks party that moves through many fun highly recognizable tracks) with a few nice unexpected tracks thrown in. The mix is eclectic as it moves through soul (e.g. Lyn Collins Think (About It)), funk (e.g. James Browns Funky Drummer), disco (e.g. Jackson Sisters I Believe in Miracles, rock (e.g. The Stone Roses Fools Gold) and nu-school breaks (e.g. Arc-en-cials The Juice).

The mix is well put together with nice novelty elements such as the cut-up of Laidbacks White Horse cut-up and the New Order/Jungle Bros mash-up.

As would be expected most of the main names from the legendary FingerlickinRecords label are here including Krafty Cuts, Soul of Man, and Plump DJs.

The mix pulls a lot of tracks together (33 in total) so as can be expected it runs through each at quite a quick pace which has the action of both stimulating and wearing out the listener. With its constitution made up of many more obvious and accessible tracks (e.g. Isaac Hayes Theme From Shaft, and Kraftys Ill Type Sound), this CD is great to kick off a party made up of a group of many different people but you would definitely not put it on if you were trying to show your mates how cutting edge or underground you were.

The mix definitely achieves what it sets up to do and that is a providing a gloss over some of the standout tracks in the history of the breaks scene in a manner that makes dancing irresistible.
