These Virago carbs are a little different than the XS650 carbs I show. These 2 vids explain a litte more detail in what to look for when you are trying to find the openings to clean.

  • I have a XV535 with the stock carbs (Mikuni BDS34 I think?) on it. It has been yet another victim of long-term storage with fuel in the bowls. I'm going through it and got a couple rebuild kits which come with the entire needle valve assembly. I can't see how to remove the needle valve chamber from this model carb? And the Clymer manual skips right over this detail. What gives?

  • @9b8 Sorry I haven't been keeping up, too many hours at work I guess, I'm not sure what you mean by 'needle valve chamber', all I can suggest is try to find a schematic on Mikuni's site.

  • HELLO MI FRIEND, GREETINGS FROM VENEZUELA...I HAVE A 1985 VIRAGO 750.....MY QUESTION IS, THERE ARE TWO VERSIONS OF HITACHI CARBS FOR VIRAGO?......WHICH BETTER?...I THINK MY BIKE FIT THE VERSION 2 AND I HAVE A LOT OF PROBLEM WITH THEM...BUT I FIND A PARTS STORE WHERE I SAW A PAIR OF HITACHI CARBS THAT I THINK ARE THE VERSION 1..PLEASE HELP ME...THANKS

  • @MOTOFRANK2 , Version 2 fits '83 920's and '84 & '85 700's and 1000's and take different carb holders than v.1. There are 3 different versions. Version 2 should have green teflon coating on the slides.

  • @crabblike ok my friend....then my bike fit the version 2, but some people say that version 1 is better than version 2.....what you think?......in the parts store there is a pair of version 1 hitachis.......wich is the best?.....thank for your help

  • @MOTOFRANK2 Its always better to stick with what actually belongs on it. btw, are youre carbs damaged or what is the problem youre having?

  • I see the washer! It's hiding under the pan. I'm sure he found it by now, but I found myself wanting to say there it is under the pan. LOL. This is awesome info. I am in the middle of a teardown and rebuild of this carburetor right now. This person does a VERY good job. Thank You for posting this!

  • @crabblike No worries, I know how it goes. I've since got them done and back on the bike. She runs! Dealing with a lean condition on the rear cylinder (plug is white), but I read that is typical for a V-twin on the rear cylinder. But to be fair, have not had it on the highway to give a true test. The "needle valve chamber" I was referring to is the round housing the needle valve rides in. The schematics call it and the needle valve a "needle valve assly." Just replaced the needle valve and jets.

  • Hey man put a inline fuel filter to prevent future problems. You can install a cheap all purpose inline fuel filter next to fuel switch. You have to get a longer fuel hose too. Total cost will be $5.50 and you always get a clean fuel. Also you can use some carb cleaner add on into gas tank to prevent oxidation during winter. Yamaha specially sucks when it comes to clean fuel. I did clean my carbs on my 97 yamaha Virago 750 about 10 years ago. Since fuel filter installed never had any problems.

  • no hablas español? tengo unas pregunta
