Just finished my Grade 10 RCM exam. This was a preparatory public concert where I played all of my 7 pieces in front of a rather large audience. The concert proceeded without any breaks between repertoire and with no applause either (until the end). It was emulating 'exam conditions.' This is the first and opening piece.
It shows some nervousness and lack of a steady beat at times. Thankfully, I think I corrected that in time for the actual exam a few days later. There's nothing like a live performance to prepare for an important piano exam.

  • It's been a while since you posted a video man, this is really something extraordinary. There is no way that I could perform in front of an audience like you did. I just finished my grade 9 RCM exam, but I'm not too sure if I passed because of the scales. Great job once again.

  • @Xtrem3Poptarts - HEY! Great to hear from you again. Sure, you CAN play in front of a lot of people. It just takes practice and really makes it easier in the exam setting. And, I have to tell you, the audience is (was) extremely supportive. As you can hear, there are some obvious mistakes, but in a live setting they don't sound nearly so bad; however, when you see the video ... errrr ... that's hard. Overall, the concert was about 45-min. long so that was a long time ... and ... memory!!

  • Wow! Congratulations as well! Your playing is an inspiration to me. I'm just starting Grade 10 now. May I ask what piece you chose for your List E?

  • @PromisesAreBroken - List "E" was "Three Fantastic Dances", op.5 (D. Shostakovich). What a trip that was. It'll be posted here in a couple of days after I get rest of the Beethoven posted, as well as the Chopin and the Debussy. Thanks for the compliments! The exam went well even if this public concert had its flaws.

  • Amazing job once again Josh! And Congratulations on finishing you grade 10 exam!

  • @skippyloo2anime - THANKS for your support!

  • I've followed all three YouTube videos of you playing this piece and every time you play it better. This was the best - and as it should be. What a sizzling piece of music! It was extremely well performed.

  • Colour me impressed! What a hard piece excellently played.

  • NICE! Great phrasing, its the ideal phrasing and intonation. However, it sounds like Chopin. Remember, Bach! No piano, harpsichord, regal, tall, and aristocratical.

  • WOW! I loved that! Brilliantly played!

  • Wow ... a whole recital. I'm looking forward to watching all of these! Thank you for posting these videos! My, this Bach certainly sizzles. What excellent playing and musicianship.

  • Well-played; this was brilliant playing of quite a difficult piece. Thoroughly enjoyable.

  • Bach's arpeggios simply dazzle. What a genius! I thought this performance was brilliant. Thanks for sharing it with us.

  • @jwabacus i hated the scales so much O: my examiner was nice too :) at least i think.....

  • Sizzling Bach at its best. Great work young man.

  • This was very enjoyable. You have a great talent. Use it wisely.
