  • @rsch888 Most of it's structure was in stainless steel honeycomb laminate, done to make it resistant to heat, but paint didn't stick too well. At least the effort wasn't wasted though, the one plane flew for a number of years, generating much critical data that has served designers to this day. The plane itself is in Ohio on display at the Wright-Patterson air force museum.

  • Truly the most beautiful plane ever built!

  • o my god tht would totally out power the 1-b lancer

  • @chrisvonderlinn No, those are T-38 chase planes.

  • Beautiful! XB-70

    but

It is a very difficult landing.

    Thanks upload.

  • At 3:00 through 3:25 is that a tigershark flying next to it? Also this thing is so intense

  • @EPCBear See my followup comment, it expands on the reasons I gave for the Valkyrie being cancelled. I was in no way intending to criticize the pilot's skill in my original posting, I was merely identifying the mode of the Valkyrie's, and his, destruction. To be a pilot for NASA in the first place requires considerable skill; only the best are selected for that honor.

You ass.... Joe Walker was a highly competent NASA Test Pilot and could hardly be labled as a "fighter jockey". As he was maneuvering his F-104 Starfighter closer to the XB-70 for better pictures of the GE engines (which is what the flight mission was that day --- to get a 'group photo' of aircraft with GE engines), his aircraft was sucked in to colliding with the Valkyrie due to the air current vortex being generated by the XB-70's flight surfaces.

  • Thank you for posting this. It made my heart warm with the memories....

  • @rsch888

My neighbor helped to construct the honeycomb skins for the XB-70, my cousin was part of the test support at Edwards AFB.
