@blackstudios What do you mean? There are spacers you can put in your rear dropouts and your front dropouts to keep them from compressing in flight.
If you don't put a spacer in, then it's very possible for your wheels and foam to compress the triangle and fork to a point of ill repair. I've been a head team mechanic for a roundabout three years now and although team bikes are never damaged, I've seen individually packed carbon frames and forks suffering irreparable damage from not using them.

I'd like to make a note to novice bike packers that it is highly encouraged to put spacers in the fork and rear triangle for shipping.
This keeps freak accidents from happening where your fork bends/breaks and the same situation with your rear triangle. Good luck!

whats the difference between this version of the Thule case and the Gray version sold by Nashbar or Amazon. Aside from this looking slightly nice is there any functional differences?

international is usually free.. when Ive flown domestic it has cost about $150 or so

Depends on the airline, many do now, it's best to ask the airline.
