  • i have to get in on this one ! FIRST off, the stanley style of banjo is very well respected, and as far as steves banjo...you wont beat it ! nor could you replace it ! and now to get to the video...i think you done a great job. steve put alot of work and heart in his dvd . i am glad you guys are getting good education from his dvd...keep it up, cause this kind of music is fading fast. these younger bands think...play it fast, call it grass...that aint gonna get it !

    thanks , carolyn sparkman

  • thanks for commenting carolyn, it means a lot!!!! the video is great for sure!

  • Good job! It sounds like what Steve was teaching in his new dvd(I have it too). I like the sound of your archtop.

  • thanks...-great dvd isn't it?? i think that before people say anything about the stanley style of playing they should watch that dvd. hearing the tone steve gets out of that stanleytone sure is amazing!!! i think it's one of the best styles in the world-hope i can play it better someday. thanks again for the comment! your version of pretty polly is great also!

  • If Carolyn says its right then thats good enough for me...that lady has heard more Ralph Style pickin than all of us put together..ha ha..Its great to hear that Steves DVD is keeping the style alive & kicking.

Keep up the good work & post your progress on the tube

  • Boy, I like that archtop sound you've got

  • Good job! Real mountain pickin'.

  • Ha! I've played a lot of bluegrass in my time and have always been a Stanley fan. I have found myself playing in bands and jamming with pickers who try to slight Ralph's style. But, invariably, they've never really listened to the way Ralph plays. They are just spouting out what they've heard someone saying at a jam who doesn't know what they are talking about either. They can't appreciate the style because they can't play it. Not so much the roll but the relentlessness that gets them.

  • One of my favorites especially with Earl Taylor.

  • Don't make me come on here and start smacking people who are hating on Stanley style......It's the "only style" as far as I am concerned, and no one plays it better than Steve. HI CAROLYN!!!! Love Hot Guy..........

  • Your Right ultfishrman, alot of ppl love the way ralph sounds when he gets going on his 5 string, and the way he can switch and do the oldtime style is more then most bluegrassers can do, so he is on the top pf my list for Banjo PLayers...

  • Banjerman,I doubt there is one banjo player ,other than Earl Scruggs that has made more money with his band than Ralph Stanley.

Yes,Monroe probably has but he used many different banjo players.

My favorites are Crowe and Stanley,2 completly different sounds.

To say not many people like Stanley Style shows your lack of intelligence or your lack of bluegrass knowledge.

Earl is the man,the flathead is most popular, but Raplh has a huge following as well.
