Whose Blood - A new play by Alex Burger
The year is 1832. A couple from what is now Ghana have come to London in search of a better life. One morning they arrive at St. Thomas' Hospital looking for help and a doctor proposes an experimental solution. Soon, the couple find themselves immersed in a world of gin shops, body snatching, and ghosts. How far would you go to save the one you love?
Part I - The opening of the play is a ritual performed by Efua to call on the deities of the Mother Earth, the River, the Peacemaker, and the Protector of Children. Efua then sings a song to Nana Asuo Gyebi, the River Deity who intercedes in difficult cases.
Whose Blood was performed at the Old Operating Theatre near London Bridge from 23rd February to 12th March, 2011. Further information from www.bankcider.com.
