The Wartburg Castle lies in former East of Germany, close to Eisenach, and overlooks the forests of Thuringia. It is one of the oldest and best-preserved Romanesque castles in Germany, built in 1067.

  • Die Wartburg liegt in Thüringen ca. 65km von Bad Hersfeld (Hessen) entfernt, wo Deitz und "donaubiker" in 1948 geboren wurden.. Martin Luther machte sie berühmt, denn er flüchtete dort hin und übersetzte das Neue Testament der Bibel in 11-Wochen. In 1534 übersetzte Luther auch das Alte Testament. Thüringen war bis 1989 durch die Zonengrenze getrennt. Mein Vater konnte das geliebte Eisenach nicht mehr besuchen; er starb 1988 - ein Jahr vor der Grenzöffnung. Schöne Bilder von Deitz!

Martin Luther made them famous because he fled there & translated the New Testament of the Bible in 11 weeks. In 1534 Luther translated the Old Testament. Thuringia was part of East Germany until 1989. My father was not allowed to visit the beloved Eisenach in East Germany & died in 1988 a year before the border was open to all.
