Do you know what nigel gresley said of mallard?-----any one of my engines can do 100mph with or without a tin jacket and the same is true of this monstrosity
-
she was still in the Great Hall at NRM at the begining of October, she has however been given an LMS 'streamlined' coach......though that wasnt so obvious.
she is a stunning machine! she looks great.
but then again so does Mallard. a little worse for wear but still Stunning none the less.

@bhyllsman that was Staniers point of view, he hated the streamlining, he felt that the advantages at a higher speed did not outweigh the disadvantages when it came to maintainence. who actually got the streamlining done in the first place is unknown.
-
How the hell did 14 ton of streamlining make it go faster----they would have been better off halving the size of the tender!
-
looks like a stick of rock ugly
-
@tom201090 I read that the new Director at the NRM is looking at bringing her back into steam, and having a rake BR Mk 2s painted to match. Now that would be a sight.
-
it would be good if she ran on the mainline like this. Would be Britain (and possibly the worlds) most stylish train. The pendolino of the era

excellent video i liked and faved :)

Duchess of Hamilton is my favourite steam engine of all time, she and other members of her class are actually faster than the diesel engine that run services nowadays all the best reason to bring back steam long live steam!!!!!

@mattbozi89 Until you see it for real everyone has different opinions :) I'd personally prefer it to go back on the mainline with the cladding.

Why on earth have they put all this cladding on her??

@simonsteam To show the very different streamlining idea LMS used + Steam Railway magazine helped raise the money to re-create it.
