Southern Railway Merchant Navy Class 4-6-2 no 35028 Clan Line ran from London Victoria to Oxford with the VSOE Luncheon special on 21st April 2007. Seen here at Basildon heading back towards Reading then on to Victoria.
Thanks for that denis, I've just taken delivery of a Q1, well an "oo" one anyway! A guy has done a limited run of them (25) on modified Hornby Dublo chassis. It looks pretty good, though I've not been able to try it yet. However, I am sure it will be able to pull a very respectable load too. There is a Q1 on the Bluebell, on loan from the NRM I believe, however when I was last there it was out of service. I have ridden behind it, and yes, it did very well!
I fully agree. While his pacifics are the most well known I always had a fond spot for the remarkable Q1 class. The most powerful 0-6-0 on British Railways but could also show a good turn of speed on passenger duty. A truly magnificent engine which more than fulfilled expectations.
