My thanks to Dayniac4324 for his kind comments. I've been searching for an old ballad (and I can't remember who recorded it) that partially has these lyrics: "It's just a little street/ where old friends meet/ and treat you in the same old way...." It's a slightly sad song--- the hope of going back someplace where people will be kind after you've had a failure in life. Has anyone hear of it? For some reason I think it might have been Nat King Cole or perhaps Tony Bennett.

@montserrat533 Oh ... that would be sooo much fun ! I really hope you get to go. Is it for her birthday celebration ? I didn't know if they were still doing that, since the radio station changed. This last birthday I heard her on a different radio program. I think that would be a wonderful trip. Did you get to hear the radio interview she gave last month ? She sounded marvelous. Hope you have a greart Day too... hugs... Toni
She is an icon - an angel. I just wish she could have attained more personal happiness in her latter years.

@kingward100 She's certainly had her sad times. Hopefully she's happy. Her son, Terry, said she's great at moving on. She always seems to live in the now, leaving the bad times behind her. She has a new website - dorisday(dot)com - with recorded messages. She sounds really great ! Fun to hear.

She's a great lady. Made some tasteful, lovely music, and raised a talented, innovative son.

I don't know how I ever managed to miss this song. Recordings such as these are like the work of a poet--- here you get a situation, a context, a story, and out of a speaker or headphones comes a voice, the voice of a great artist but now playing a role and just as reading a poem provides a wondrous experience, the recording infuses one with all the emotions implicit in the song. Poems/recordings=art. An equivalency as far as I'm concerned. How far we've gone from that level.

@284Maldiner Great description of this one .... she really tells the story. This is one of my favorites songs from Doris. One not very well known. I really think she was one of the best at interpreting a song and intimately laying it out there for us. Really happy you enjoyed this one !!
