Several Burnt Hills Teachers Association members, their spouses, friends, and Mustang Rugby players visited the Schoharie Valley, New York on 9/3/11 to see if they could lend a hand to the flood victims of Hurricane Irene.

This video was shot automatically by my GoPro Hero video camera while traveling between work sites. This video focuses on Main Street in Schoharie. Pay special attention to the sides of the road. Peoples belongings are piled up like snow banks as far as the eye can see.

There are few words to describe the situation in Schoharie. The damage caused by the flooding is catastrophic. The people of the Schoharie are desperately in need. Their houses are damaged or destroyed, their future uncertain. Please do anything you can.

Irene's Aftermath....Help Needed

• Need BUG SPRAY, WORK GLOVES AND DUST MASKS. Bring some for yourself and some to share if you can spare.

• Please hold off collecting clothing for now. Many people who are without homes have no where to store it.

• Still needed at Middleburgh Elementary School: non perishables, canned foods, diapers, wipes, "feminine products," cat and dog food, Pedialyte, condiments, toilet paper, etc.

• New Schoharie Donation Drop-off---Morning Star Learning Center at 121 Park Place in Schoharie (off Rt. 30 near I-88 down from Dunkin Donuts) will be collecting donations of food, clothing, footwear, school supplies, personal hygiene items, large & small furniture, etc. for those in need until 6 p.m. each day. Please call if you have questions at 295-6501 or facebook/message me.

• help needed sorting donated clothes at Polka Dots Consignment shop in Cobleskill (up by Laundromat)

• The Catholic Church in Mdbg is feeding people almost daily.

• Methodist Church in Middleburgh is collecting clothing, cleaning supplies, and toiletries.

• SCCAP is accepting donations. They accept cash and check, not credit cards. Put in memo "flood victims" Made out to SCCAP. And the address 795 East Main Street, Suite 5 Cobleskill, NY 12043 sccapinc.org.

• All local Price Choppers (Albany area etc...) are also collecting donations which will go to the American Red Cross (in our local area).

If you can't give goods, can you give your time?? Volunteers are needed.

• Shelter Assistance Needed: Register at Golding. Shifts available around the clock. For Red Cross at Golding, please call (518) 234-2355.

• Volunteers needed to help with cleanup of the Town of Middleburgh. Meet at the Municipal Building for assignments.

If you are in need of assistance with cleanup of your home/property or need supplies, please contact Shelly or Pat at Schoharie Valley Martial Arts, across the road from Grand Union in Middleburgh, Rte. 30. They are also accepting all donations.
