Jerry Quarry displays the heavyweight lost art of boxing.
Jerry would have loved fighting in the current heavyweight era. Quarry could box or slug: His choice. Here Quarry beats a much bigger and stronger opponent in the extremely formidable- Ron Lyle.

  • @MegaEvilempire Very true. Actually, I realized that I'd underrated hm solely on 4 fights, all against Ali & Frazier. And even then, as a bleeder, he simply couldn't finish.

Vitali took 8 rounds to beat up Corrie Sanders, a man who beat Wladimir. Corrie might have had 4 inches on Quarry, but he is nowhere near as skilled. If Quarry was to fight in the present era, surely he would have been a little heavier. Size is overestimated in boxing.

Joe Louis vs Joe Frazier - a fight I would have liked to see. Louis never fought anyone with the heart of Frazier, no way he would have knocked him cold in the early rounds. Louis by TKO, not possible to say which round.

  • @MegaEvilempire When Quarry fought Norton, he took the fight during his retirement on only 18 days notice and was way past his prime on top of all that. In fact, he got the call while enjoying his retirement in Hawaii. And still, he put up a hell of a fight and staggered Norton a few times. Norton knew he was not the Quarry of old, which is why he made two offers to him to fight after Jerry retired. The Quarry that fought Frazier the first time in 1969 would have slaughtered a prime Norton.

  • Jerry seemed to perform well againest punchers Lyle and Shaverbut not againest swarmer Frazer and Norton.

  • If Jerry had better management, say Angelo Dundee, he would never have lost to Machen and Ellis. He would have won the WBA tournament. RIP Jerry.

  • @seka1986 I was a big Quarry fan for many years. I was at many of his fights: Vs. Foster, Shavers, Chuvalo, Lyle and Fraiser both times. Jerry had some great wins. He could punch with either hand, box and take a punch. He had some things going against him: he didn't have proper management when he was younger, he was a bleeder and he wasn't a big heavy. I hate to say it, but both Klitschkos would have beaten him. They would have beaten Ali and Fraiser also.

  • Spinks was green when he fought Ali, only had 8 fights and yet he beat Ali in the 1st fight and almost in the 2nd. Ali was bigger and younger than most of his opponents when he was in his prime. Many later decisions that he was given were robberies.

  • @emoran001 Ali was old against Young, green against Cooper. And it can be argued that Frazier's left hook was better than Dempsey's, which Ali took.
