One small sample of the failed president of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, who spends little time interacting with students, staff, and faculty, except when they need to be lectured.

Her use of the word "interregnum" is also classic Shirley Jackson. She frequently throws out shall we say "the SAT Word of the Day" and uses it incorrectly, or in a way that is the most obscure use of the word, while a more common, but less scholarly-sounding word would suffice.
