My name is Tonya. I'm a single mother, with three boys.

My parents divorced when I was 2, and my mom and I lived in apartments from then on. Now I'm raising my own children, and they've grown up living in apartments, too. I'd really like to change that someday soon.

Earlier this year, I completed the YWCA Financial Empowerment workshop series. It completely changed my way of thinking about money. I started budgeting for the month and stopped letting bills go past-due. Now that I'm caught up, I can focus on saving for a down payment, college funds, and retirement.

I've also started in the nursing program at Texas Woman's University in Denton, with the help of a scholarship. After I complete my bachelor's degree, I plan to continue on to get my master's as a nurse practitioner.
