Have you not been reading the comments on here? Stephane Grapelly did NOT play on this track. The violin soloist is Michel Warlop. This was his signature tune and that's why he was so heavily featured.
This was the masterpiece of Michel (Michou) Warlop. It shows what is possible when you have the best classical music education available, technique that makes nothing impossible, passion beyond belief and intensity like never before existed. Warlop won many prizes and was called one of the three or four best violinists of the 20th century. Django Reinhardt on guitar and Louis Vola on bass were also present on 21 December 1937 to record disc 13 in the catalog of Disques 'Swing'.
Warlop was famous for nervosity but I think the critics were wrong. I strongly believe that Michou was lifelong ADHD. I feel that's where all his energy, power, creativity and passion came from. This fits with what we know about ADHD now but was all unknown back then. Even his alcohol problem fits with ADHD. I'm no expert, but I've lived wih it for 6-plus decades. I identify with Warlop's music more than anyone else's. It's like he's been speaking to me over the past 30 years with his playing.
Ok...then too much Michel Warlop and not enough Django.

You were only half right. This is built on the changes to Swinging With Django, which was recorded a little before this was.
