  • Lever Brothers used a gimmick of packing a free towel or face cloth in their slow-moving detergents for years- especially in December 1952, when they offered this on their "LUX RADIO THEATER" {I've heard a recording of this ad}: "New, improved Silver Dust...wonder-bubble suds for both laundry AND dishes, makes you this amazing goodwill offer! Inside every large-sized box of Silver Dust, a genuine CANNON face cloth..."

    By 1967, sales of their "Breeze" detergent had to be "propped up", too...
