TOPIC: McCain's Healthcare Plan, Powell Endorsement

TRANSCRIPT: WALLACE: You say that Obama's tax plan amounts to welfare because he'll give refundable tax credits — in effect, checks — to 40 percent of Americans who don't pay any income tax.

MCCAIN: Federal income tax, yes.

WALLACE: Right.

MCCAIN: Yes.

WALLACE: Obama points out that no one will receive one of these refundable checks if they aren't at least paying payroll taxes, Social Security taxes.

And your health care plan would also give these refundable checks to that same 40 percent who don't pay income taxes, federal income taxes. So if his plan is welfare, isn't yours?

MCCAIN: Well, it's — the difference is that we need to provide — it's a fundamental requirement to give people the chance to have affordable and available health insurance, or the option is to go into a big government program such as we have in Canada, in England and others.

Americans right now are without health insurance. They need to get it.

he wont give a 5k check, he will give them a tax credit for 5k if you spend it already on health care. Obama wants to take someones EARNED money, take it, and GIVE it to somebody who pays ZERO income taxes

McCain's socialism charge just blew up in his face! Nice job Wallace. How can he call a middle class tax cut that includes the 40% of americans who dont pay income tax welfare or socialism when McCain's health care plan will give a $5000 check to those same people? Why isn't taking money from the rich to give to the poor for health care socialism also? What does it matter what the money is used for right-redistribution is redistribution after all. McCain is toast once this gets out.
