The response was to avoid embarrassment. the bush administration avoided the embarrassment of not finding WMD's by saying we were over there to spread "democracy".

The united states government isn't even a true democracy anymore. a true democracy clearly states that it would not impose it's views on people who didn't want it. and what are we doing? we are trying to force democracy onto a people who never wanted it in the first place.
