Ngara, an Aboriginal word meaning 'to listen, hear, think', is the name given to new rural wireless broadband technology being developed by CSIRO. At a Naming Ceremony at CSIRO's site at Marsfield in Sydney, the Darug people -- whose traditional lands include the Marsfield area -- gave CSIRO permission to use Ngara as the name for its technology.
Together CSIRO CEO Dr Megan Clark and Auntie Edna Watson, a Darug elder, together unveiled a painting by Auntie Edna. "Here is the meeting place", she said of the central motif in the painting, "where we communicate with different people. It is symbolic of broadband, with people coming in to hear and all the tribes being able to hear."
Performances in this video are by Thullii Dreaming.
