I bought this metal tongue drum a couple of weeks ago. It is made in the UK by Rovi. It was sold as something which was "specially tuned". In all honesty I believe that's another way of saying "not tuned"...so I tuned it, which is easy. Just use a hacksaw blade to lengthen the tongues, and a guitar tuner so that you know exactly what note you are playing. Having done that it has become a good instrument, considering there are similar things on the market at much higher prices.

    Cheers

    Rovi.

  • @ivor1969 Yeh, sorry about that. Big tides on the river, then... manflu !

  • @neilandfi I want to make something absolutely clear:

TUNING THESE IS EXTREMELY EASY, AND QUICKLY DONE. ONCE YOU'VE DONE IT YOU PROBABLY WON@T HAVE TO DO IT AGAIN.

  • PLEASE READ............

There is no need to retune a Mood Drum, it has it's own unique sound,

    Neil re-tuned his by choice.

I tune these drums from the Soul to create the sound of a Mood Drum, as we can create musical sounds from all sorts of shapes even table condiments, yet I have never come across anyone re-tuning a Salt & Pepper set a Teapot or even a sugar bowl. It is all about rhythm, text book tuning is great yet our Ancestors managed without it.

    Escape with a organic sound.

  • @ivor1969 Personally, I fully endorse what you say there. I experimented with the tuning as you gave it to me...played it for a while like that but came to the conclusion that my ear just wasn't familiar with it. Retuning is very very easy, so I see no reason why anyone should not start with the tuning you give it.

  • @neilandfi I have just purchased 1 of these drums from Rovi. can't wait to receive it and have a little patter :)

  • @simonthepsychicmonk Addictive as hell. You'll love it.
