A piece featuring alpinist Fabrizio Zangrilli discussing our 2009 expedition to K2 in northern Pakistan. Ursus Films was there to make a documentary. Our trip coincided with the 100th anniversary of the Italian Duke of Abruzzi's 1909 expedition, notable for pioneering what is now the standard route and coming back with amazing photographs taken by the photographer Vittorio Sella. See UrsusFilms.com for more info about the documentary. This is the first of two halves.

  • What is never talked about is the fact that almost every climber that becomes sick or injured on any extreme expedition is left alone to die. I have read stories about the brave and the bold on their way up a mountain walking past people that were dying. Not so brave and bold huh? Looks like egos get in the way of human kindness and the decent thing to do which is stop the expedition and devout 100% energy in saving a life even if you know the effort will fail.

  • @svenmega10022 Big adventures draw some big egos for sure. But you'd be surprised at the degree to which people help each other on these peaks. Many expeditions have been abandoned to come to the aid of others. This is one of several issues I'm getting into in the long form of this documentary, "K2 - Season on the Edge."

  • sure is great place, what mountain is that at 4:49?

  • @iaintheslaughter The mountain at 4:49 is Great Trango Tower.

    Check it out on Wikipedia.

    Cheers.

  • Polish climbers- the very best

  • @svenmega10022 You have no idea what your talking about!

  • @anvil5gryffid Have you heard about Carlos Soria? search about he in youtube,

    in spanish, so good.

  • @svenmega10022 I think its simple do you help someone and then there is 2 people who may need rescue. And at the altitude my climber friends always say you arent dying you are dead.

  • @svenmega10022 Mountain rescues at that altitude are impossible. they would just be putting more lives on the line. You go up there know you have a great chance to die. It's not egos , it is jsut how it is.

  • @svenmega10022 my eldest cousin (only 4 years younger than my mother) died on k2 in 1986 (one of the 2 Austrians in the well documented tragedy). Nobody in the family ever blamed anyone of the survivors of his expedition. You cannot carry anyone down an 8000er, who's not able to walk by himself. A try would equal suicide. Mountaineers know that.

  • wow must be some adventure, viewing Nanga Purbat and then K-2, I don't know if I would ever be able to go to such expeditions but thanks for the video

  • Much respect, I can't wait to climb in the Karakoram soon..sigh

  • great!...

  • Lol, "today we need to pick up the explosives". Nice.
