Quick question, did your rafters and pieces come in little squares or one big strip and you cut them? If in squares, how many mm, such as 0.5mm or 1.0mm etc and did you stick to together to make it rectangular, cheers.

@joelest1993 long strips, got them from mitre 10 and bunnings. no way would i try stick little squares together. it wouldnt look neat, and it would be too much work and not very strong.
The strips are about a 3 metre long, and we used a lot of them.

I'm studying Construction Management & Economics and have to build one in the next week! shitting my pants haha. Would you recommend building the trusses first? did you use different thicknesses of balsa or all the same? What scale did you build it on? I"m finding that the hardest part to decide!

@ShineNSta hey, this at unisa? im in 4th year now, same course.
we calculated how many trusses we needed then drew the 2d trusses on a piece of paper then cut them out and built them all together so they were all the same. i cant remember what scale it was at, but its not really that important as long as the model is not too big in the end. so maybe work out the length of the building and from that check different scales so that you are not carrying a massive or tiny model.

@ShineNSta 2 different thicknesses, we used rectangle shaped ones for everything and smaller square shaped ones for the purlins. i would build the walls first then the trusses. we used broken staples for nails to hold the pieces together while the superglue set. and once the whole thing was together we re superglued all the joints to make it strong.

How long did it take you? how hard was it? I'm doing it now, any advice? thanks!

@joelest1993 it didnt take too long, we just sat up one night, 3 of us, and got it done. we measured out the pieces we needed and drew a template on a bit of paper, then just put the pieces of wood on the template and cut each piece. that way each piece matched the piece on the template. then we used super glue and broken staples as nails. dont put too much glue on at first, just enough to hold it together. once you make all the trusses and assemble it, put more glue on the joints then.
