The surname of the family in the series is Befordd, the father is Forrest, the son Nathaniel (Nathan), The deconstruction of the name and its use is clearly ironic, as the family represents the changing attitudes towards integration in the South. BTW, NBF eventually quit the KKK when it became too violent.
