When you lose power you lose your lights, heat, well and all your water, shower, stove
and a way to keep your food from spoiling, sometimes communication and transportation
(snowed in).(depending on your situation somethings in this list may not apply)
See for yourself the damage of the ice storm
some towns were out of power for almost two weeks. The govenor declared us in a state of
emergency over 150,000 homes were without
power. There were live power lines down everywhere, people also died from Carbon
Monoxide poisoning trying to heat their homes.
Let's be prepared next time...life is too precious
The power of nature: constant freezing rain and snapping and popping of the tops of trees
and whole trees coming down also branches and trunks coated in layers of the ice,in this
video see where a tree came down and ripped the cable from our house.
Outdoor cooking during a power outage since we were unable to cook inside due to having
an electric stove.See the use of the (Thermette) no gas for
fuel needed
If you like snow and ice you should spend winter in Scotland lol. Winter 2010 was the worst in history.

I survived the great ice storm of 98 in Upstate NY all the way through Canada. I lived in NY right on the St Larence Seaway. No power, water, food, heat or TP for three weeks. Many people died. The freezing rain fell for three days! Trees exploded, great big power line stands - the big ones - bent and collapsed. It was scary and very straining on everyone involved. When the lights finally came back on I thanked God! I was so desperate I thanked an imaginary man!! Tough times...

Great! you had power and hot food, while your neighbors had granola bars in the dark. : )
I hooked up my Honda generator (amazingly quiet and reliable) to the fuse box and I had central heating, hot water boiler, lights and even Internet !
I am sure my neighbors were in bewilderment as they saw me through the patio window in my t-shirt, working in front of my desktop computer with the lights on. I even had the large flat screen TV on and watching the news.
Only house in my area ! =)

Thanks for the video. You take care of yourself. Your storm is on the way here now (Wisconsin) though we're just expecting to get 10 to 16 inches of snow. It is amazing to see the ice part of this monster storm that is reaching across this continent.
