This is my boyfriend's John Deere M that he is restoring. He's been having problems with it over heating so he made a chrome stack to put on it and so far it's working great! It also made it MUCH louder.
Couple of things to consider. 1. the chrome stack may not furnish enough back pressure to assure correct exhaust valve closure. Just guessing. 2. The M is missing the heat shield that attaches to the back of the engine area and deflects hot air away from the gas tank. Ask me how I know this. My gasoline was actually boiling in the tank one day. Luckily I figured out the heat shield thing before an explosion occurred. 3. the timing could be off enough to affect engine heat.
