This is a collection of videos and photos of the Jack Rabbit and the Racer roller coasters at Kennywood Park. Since the Jack Rabbit opened in 1921 and the Racer opened in 1927, I thought I would set this video to the music of Jabbo Smith with "Charleston Dance is Allright After All" which was one of the more famous Jazz tunes from the 20's. It should be noted that the Racer is one of the few single track racing coasters left in the world and the Jack Rabbit was given the "Ace Coaster Classic" award by the ACE club (American Coaster Enthusiasts) for keeping the ride as original as possible, including the coaster trains themselves.

Stats:
Jack Rabbit
Opened: 1921
Built by: Charlie Mach
Designed by: John Miller
Cost: $50,000 USD
Height: 40ft/12.19m
Drop: 70ft/21.33m
Length: 2132ft/649.83m
Speed: 45mph/72.42kph
Ride time: 1:36

Racer:
Opened: 1927
Built by: Charlie Mach
Designed by: John Miller
Cost: $75,000 USD
Height: 72ft 6in/22.12m
Length: 2250ft/685.8m

This is a "Mobius" coaster as both sides are connected to each other making it one long track. That means if you leave on the right side of the station, you'll come back on the left side of the station and vice versa. The actual track length is really 4500ft/1371.6m long

  • woodencoasterfan what are your favorite rollercoasters at Kennywood?

  • They're all great coasters at Kennywood. But I had the most fun on the Thunderbolt and The Racer. I believe the train I was on won three out of five times when I rode The Racer.

  • I will go on both the Racer and Jackrabbit in May I cant wait.

  • They're both great rides despite their age. You're so close to the other train on the Racer that you can actually reach out and slap hands with the riders on the other train. The back seat is the best place for this. Kennywood may not have the newest, highest, and most technologically advanced rides, but they're fun none the less.

  • I love Kennywood

  • Thanks, I hope they never change it :)

  • I almost went on the Racer in 2008 but then didn't want to. I dont know why I did not go on it.

  • I have never been on the Thunderbolt and the Racer.

  • I was on the Jackrabbit when I was younger. I loved it and my cousins go on the Jackrabbit first every year I have no idea why.
