Through the Sustainable Rivers Project, the Conservancy and the US Army Corps of Engineers -- the largest water manager in the world -- are using science to adjust dam operations to mimic a river's natural flow patterns enough to restore critical ecological processes, like fish migration for spawning, while maintaining or improving other dam purposes, like flood control and recreation.
