Baby Horse Foal Born Christmas Day Lopez Island WA 2008

On the morning after Christmas 2008 we went to check on a horse (Honey) we were planning on moving to a better location. We were concerned about the care she was getting there.There was a bad winter storm with freezing weather and no way for Honey to get her feet out of the muck and no shelter for her. Surprisingly, it turned out that there was a baby horse born there the night before (Christmas day)! But the owners of the farm were off the island for Christmas. There was nobody there to help the baby and mother. There was no food or bedding in the stall and the baby couldn't stand. We got the baby on it's feet and put some nice bedding down, then came back the next morning to feed mom again. Hopefully the owners came back home the day after that. I had to leave the island but have seen the baby a few times since. She survived but is kinda ugly now. LOL

I glad you saved the baby. After 2 years, I hope the horse is still alive and well.
