There was actually going to be one believe it or not, but it got turned into Sonic CD.
If you ask me, they really should have done that instead and in put in the Spin Dash and Super Peelout, Exclusive zones based off those from the 8-bit version, and have the ability to transform into "Super" Sonic after getting all six chaos emeralds which is the same effect as getting both invincibility and speed up. (Much like Knuckles in Sonic 1.)
Don't like Sonic CD, overrated IMO.
