  • You remind me of one of my high school english teachers :)

Have you ever studied archetypal patterns? It's a good way to look at the cycle of HP, though it puts them in more of a circle than a triangle.

  • Sadly, no, my high school English teachers never really taught us anything that intelligent. I may have to look at that on the next read-through. :)

  • @bandgeek8408 That's okay. Thanks anyways.

  • @decarus427 You know, I honestly can't remember where I might have done that. Sorry.

  • I can see you put these up two years ago but you said you rambled on in depth in writing somewhere. Do you have a link?

  • Meant to also say: I liked the little graphic. I haven't the slightest inkling of how to do stuff like that, soooo.... yeah.... cool.

  • Yeah, the title change always bothered me, too. I didn't have to hear about it quite as much, probably, partly because we had the Brit. versions here in Canada, and partly because I came to the series post-OotP. (My bookclub picked it for a summer read, so I got the others to read first, of course.) My copy of the film is called Philosopher's Stone, which I like. Reading Leaky, for example, I have always been mildly irritated by references to Sorcerer's Stone. Irritated is even a strong word.

  • Kind of a combination. I do like the British/Canadian covers, and I actually read the British editions of the first three books. Also, I tend to refer to "Sorcerer's Stone" as "Philosopher's Stone," even when I'm talking about the American edition, because I don't like that the American publishers changed the title, when the Philosopher's Stone is an actual legend, not an invention of Rowling's. (That's me being anal retentive. :) ) So, it was just easiest to use British covers for all of them.

  • Hey! You used the British/Canadian covers in your graphic! As a Canuck, I'm curious about that. Did you just like them better, are those the ones you own, are they just the first ones you could find on the Interwebz...????

Little Mrs. Anally Retentive wants to know! :-) (There, I've saved you the chore of saying it.)

  • Holy crap, you were deprived! Go look it up, NOW! :)

It doesn't just apply to HP - it applies to any piece of literature. HP is just really interesting because she takes us through the entire cycle - that's why you get parallels between opposite books. It's also worth looking at the Star Wars cycle (in chronological order according to when they were released and in numerical order) Definitely interesting.
