Tom Evans plays Father Flynn in the opening monologue of John Patrick Shanley's Tony Award-Winning play, "Doubt, a Parable". Performed at the Arena Players Theater in New York.
the saying the truth will set you free yet they are unable to speak and the ensuing doubt seeks to tear their perception of God and his ways apart as his servants choose to disobey Him, I don't know I'm just ranting
the fact that these holy catholic men are abusing their power and manipulating those who they should be molding into the ideal Christian image, children, and are instead instilling doubt in the faith by the way of the children and whom if any they report these misdeeds to. The nuns for instance have doubt that father Flynn is an 'actual' man as his actions while liberal seem appreciated by the young boys. The other doubt comes from the matter the boys are told to keep quiet and give rise to
Pretty solid acting done by this performance, I think his voice could be more not sermon-like but more like a more 'liberal' preacher unabashed in the epic ritual of holy catholic tradition, as when father Flynn comes to the school he is a stranger coming into an unsure Catholic atmosphere further unraveled by his future pedophilllic desires. I do commend the actor however for providing a lively presence on stage that is able to transfer through video, yet I think the 'doubt' of Doubt comes from
