The Mazda MP3 utilizes several well-respected aftermarket manufacturers to improve its dynamic performance. Today's compact-car hot rodders will recognize the MP3's upgrades from Takechi Project Company and hardware such as Racing Hart wheels, Racing Beat exhaust, Tokico dampers, and a Nardi steering wheel. Compared to the standard Protege, the MP3 is lowered a half inch all around, firmed up, rides on 17-in. wheels, looks the part, and only lacks in one way: Minor PCM and intake modification upped the highest-rated Protege ES 2.0L inline-four engine output from 135 hp to 140.
